WCW House Show Results from Boston, MA, 04/03/99
By Chris A.
I just returned from the Fleetcenter where I saw a WCW house show. All in all
it was a good night with good crowd response. Here is my breakdown of the
matches.
- Juventud Guerrera vs. Lizmark, Jr.
- An unusually slow moving match for these two. Lizmark handled a good bulk of
the offense but was done in by the Juvidriver. The crowd was pretty confused
as to who the heel was. Both men got their boos.
- Horace vs. Norman Smiley
- In what was the worst match of the night, Horace got the win with the H-bomb.
Norman teased the big wiggle and received a good pop.
- Scotty Riggs vs. Fit Finlay
- For about ten minutes, Riggs and Finlay argued on the microphone. Riggs
started a U.S.A chant as the match slowly got underway. Riggs picked up what
I thought was an upset with a flying knee drop of some sort. Riggs got
marginal pop, Finlay marginal heat.
- Rey Mysterio Jr. vs Kidman for the world cruiserweight title.
- Before the match got underway, the horsemen rushed to the ring and this match
turned into......
- Rey Mysterio Jr. and Kidman vs. Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit for the tag team titles.
- Long match with the high flying cruiserweights and the technically sound Horsemen putting on a good show. As you would expect the fans baked the champs who ultimately came out victorious via a Mysterio rollup. Very entertaining match. Intermission followed.
- Konnan vs. Disco Inferno
- Disco came out and said he was going to debut his new rap song but was cut
off by Konnan's theme music. Catchphrases. I'm a big Disco fan and I cheered
for him the whole way through and he actually held a solid advantage. Disco
said he was going to debut his new finisher, but Konnan stopped him in his
tracks. Disco went for the Last Dancin', Chartbustin' Stunner but Konnan
reversed it into his own. Tequilla sunrise for the Konnan win. I thought this
match was good because Disco was involved.
- Sting vs. Bam Bam Bigelow
- Not a bad match. It was good to see Sting back. Sting got the win rather quickly with a the deathdrop.
- Meng vs. Goldberg
- Many no-sells by both to start. As Goldberg set up for the spear Bigelow rushed to the ring. Meng met him and turned around. He was hit with a jackhammer. It was your usual Goldberg squash.
- Hollywood Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair for the WCW World Heavyweight title.
- Hogan entered and was milking the fans. Flair entered and referred to
ringside fans as 'Fat Boy' and 'Turd Boy'. Match got under way and the two
titans went at it for a good 15 minutes. The crowd totally was on the Hulkster
bandwagon. Hogan Hulked up. Big Boot. Leg Drop of Doom.
1......2.......NO!!!!!! Charles Robinson refused to count. Mickey Jay runs
in. Another Big Boot. Another Leg Drop of Doom. 1.........2.......3!!!!! We
have a new world champion!!!! Charles Robinson reversed the decision and
Flair is still your champ (what a surprise). Post match Hogan and Mickey J
stomped on Robinson. What a Night!!
