Howdy Bill!
Just got back from the College Station house show event and here's the
run down:
-
We're in the brand new Reed Arena on the campus of the Big 12 Champions,
Texas A&M University.
-
This is the first time a major fed has held a show in town. There
is nowhere near a sell out crowd. Maybe it is because of the Royal
Rumble tonight. But hey, that's what VCRs are for, right?
-
David Penzer is doing ring annoucing duties this evening.
-
Glacier vs Chris Adams
-
Adams comes out wearing a Judo outfit.
-
The referee is the Konnan Impersonator, Johnny Boone.
-
Great heel work by Glacier
-
Adams over Glacier by submission
-
The Cat vs Van Hammer
-
During The Cat's speal, chants of "Pussycat".
-
He tries picking fights with a woman in the front row on one side of the
ring, and kids on the other side.
-
Penzer is having to cover his mouth to hide his smile and laughing.
-
The Cat is showing everyone something he just discovered... crotch chops.
-
Finally the match starts.
-
Hammer does the A&M Aggie signs to get over with the crowd.
-
Cat on the outside, runs and slides into the ring. Just like in Major
League, and at Starrcade, he comes up just short.
-
Another point in the match, the Cat kicks the ref in the leg. The
ref then takes down the Cat.
-
The Cat wins by pinfall.
-
David Taylor vs Chris Benoit
-
Not much to say about this one other than a great technical match.
-
Benoit wins via submission (Crossface).
-
Bobby Duncum Jr. vs Kanyon
-
Before the show, Penzer was saying Duncum was looking forward to this event.
Duncum used to play football for the Univeristy of Texas... arch enemies
of Texas A&M.
-
Duncum comes out and tries to get the crowd on his side by going with a
we're all from the state of Texas bit. The fact he brought out his
college football jersey doesn't help.
-
Kanyon did his research in knowing about the rivalry and using it to be
a face tonight. No, "Who's better than Kanyon" bit though.
-
Chants of "Big 12 Champs", "Beat the Hell outta tu", and other A&M
yells.
-
The ref gets knocked out for a moment, and Duncum whacks Kanyon with his
cowbell on a rope.
-
Duncum wins via pinfall
-
Kanyon gets up and gives Duncum the Flatliner.
-
He then ties the rope around Duncum's neck and hangs him over the top rope.
-
As Duncum gasps for breath on the floor, Kanyon grabs the tu jersey and
umm.. wipes himself with it. [You get the picture, if not, I took
one for ya.] He tosses the newly soiled jersey into the crowd.
It is thrown back into the ring by popular request.
-
The crowd was really into this match thanks to Duncum's alma mater.
-
Scotty Riggs vs Raven
-
Riggs is without his eye patch.
-
He makes the old and overly used "Texas is full of steers and queers" bit
in response to the cheers for Raven.
-
Raven wins via pinfall (after a DDT).
-
DDP vs Bam Bam Bigalow
-
Big pops for DDP.
-
DDP wins via pinfall (after the Diamond Cutter, but I bet you knew that).
-
Bret Hart vs Sting
-
He may not have gotten heat in Louisiana, but here in Texas, Bret's a definite
heel.
-
Sting is in his black and white mode.
-
A table got involved in this match, much to Bret's dismay.
-
The ending was the same as last night. The Ref was caught in a Stinger
Splash. Bret pulls out the taped knuckles and knocks out Sting.
He spends too much time reviving the ref and Sting gets a foot on the ropes
at the two count. Sting gets up and gives Bret the Stinger Death
Drop
-
Sting wins via pinfall
-
This makes two Nitros and two house shows for me. I gotta agree with
Bill and the others that house shows are much better. The crowd is
more into it and the wrestlers are obviously enjoying themselves.
Time to watch the Royal Rumble tape so I'm outta here.
CYA,
Christian
