WCW Worldwide - Saturday, 1/8/00
-
Clips from Thunder (12/24) as the nWo talks and Goldberg goes from the revenge.
- Bret: "You wrestling fans are such stupid idiots, you fell for the oldest
wrestling trick in the book."
-
Nah, I think calling fans idiots is actually the oldest trick in the book.
-
Did you all read Bret's Sharpshooter column? Was very interesting.
-
Tony: "When Jarrett goes there, he found, instead of Vince Russo and Ed Ferrera,
Goldberg."
-
Um, unless the character of Ferrera is an invisible mute (and not at all
related to Oklahoma), I'm thinking Tony's a little off.
-
Maybe I'm alone here, but I'm disturbed that Goldberg apparently speared
Nash in the show.
-
The car smashing (and the blood) gets shown on color here. Odd.
-
Souled Out ad.
-
Holy crap...it actually serves to hype the event, mentioning Bret's turn
and the nWo reformation.
-
And they even mention the main event, Sid vs Bret.
-
Is someone with some sense finally working on these?
-
Looks like it.
-
Clips from Nitro (12/27) as Scott Stiener "retires" and joins the nWo
-
Tony keeps calling them "the new nWo" without realizing the repetitiveness.
-
Stiener did a good job with the interview.
-
Though I never ever want hear another "hoochies" interview from him.
-
And you could see an angle coming the moment the nWo came out.
-
And Steiner's turn when he came back out...
-
...and everyone not involved not-so-subtly leaving the ring to let the angle
happen.
-
They say Sid hit the floor when the monster truck hit the car, and he was
stuck in there for a couple hours while they tried to free him.
-
Tony: "Next up, the "Lethal" Tank Abbott"
-
Heenan: "I taught him how to punch."
-
As promised, Tank Abbott is featured after the break...
-
Tony: "What do you mean, you taught him how to punch?"
-
Heenan: "What?"
-
Tony: "You said you taught him how to punch?"
-
Heenan: "No...I taught him how to MAKE punch. You take a big bowl..."
-
Heenan names stuff he'd thrown in (pineapple, jalapeņos) and Tony disagrees.
-
Heenan: "Boy, you don't know how to eat."
-
Tony hypes Abbott some more "This is someone we have to watch in this sport."
-
Heenan: "Not only in this sport, any place you're at...any place with no lighting."
-
Back to Thunder - LA PARKA~! vs some other guy
-
This "punches to the head" gimmick for Abbott is pretty good.
-
You have to credit Russo for comi-
-
Oh, wait, he didn't, never mind.
-
We go to Nitro vs Shane vs Tank Abbott.
-
Heenan: "He got fined $10,000?"
-
Tony: "Yep, for hitting Doug Dillen-"
-
Heenan (later): "Come out, hit him! It's worth another $10,000."
-
Skipping ahead "four segments", Bret Hart needs help to beat Jerry Flynn.
-
I'm glad we have to see Jarrett spray painting when this segment is about Tank Abbott.
-
That would have been a good time to clip ahead just to the Abbott beat
down.
-
Heenan: "You don't know the feeling of hitting a guy handcuffed. It's like
winning the Kentucky Derby or the World Series...it's festive."
-
Souled Out
-
Tony: "Five matches to announce at this time"
-
Bret vs Sid (Title can change on DQ)
-
Jarrett vs Benoit (Dungeon/Bunkhouse Brawl/Caged Heat)
-
Am I the only one thinking "HiTC cage" when they say Caged Heat?
-
And that "Caged Heat" is a pretty stupid name?
-
Vampiro vs David Flair
-
Tank Abbott vs Jerry Flynn (Block)
-
Um, Tony?
-
To kill time (I guess) Tony and Bobby talk about the crew.
-
Heenan: "They're all here? You know what that means? Somone made bail."
-
Frankie "Surfer" Lancaster vs Jerry Flynn
-
Hudson and Tenay are the ring side announcers...
-
Hudson's nickname, not mine.
-
Hudson also says "Flynn on his way to bigger and better things", so you
know he's on something. :)
-
Flynn with a kick, followed by two chops.
-
Whip, spin kick ducked, Frankie with a flying forearm, clothesline, dropkick,
and again, as Flynn rolls to the outside.
-
Flynn stalls on the outside as someone turns up the heat machine.
-
An actual "Jerry sucks" chants starts. FL helps out.
-
Flynn with a kick to the back of the leg, then a double chop to the throat.
-
Flynn with a whip, clohtesline.
-
Flynn follows up with a kneedrop, then picks him up and punches him.
-
Flynn covers but Lancaster gets a foot on the ropes.
-
Flynn with stomps, then an eye poke on Lancsater.
-
Flynn with a whip, spin chop connects.
-
Lancaster with punches as he tries to get to his feet, but a Flynn chops
stops that.
-
Flynn lifts him out, savate kick doubles him over.
-
Flynn pushes him in the corner for a boot choke.
-
Flynn with rapid fire kicks to the midsection, cross corner whip, charging
kick misses, as Frankie gets out of the way, whips, backdrop.
-
Frankie with punches, whip, clothesline misses, Flynn's Savate kick hits,
followed by a belly to belly suplex.
-
Wow, a wrestling move!
-
Hudson and Tenay talk about Flynn just adding wrestling moves to his set.
-
Too bad he's not using more, he's using less, as compared to before his
recent push.
-
Flynn with a weak spin kick, for 3.
-
Your Winner: Jerry Flynn (3:28)
-
I feel the urge to point out that Flynn was a heel here, but pushed a face
not 10 minutes earlier.
-
I also feel it doesn't matter blah blah blah blah.
-
Sigh.
-
Disorderly Conduct vs the Hardcore Soldiers (Knobbs and Fit Finlay) in
a Hardcore Match.
-
During this match, they do mention the "Four the Hardway" match for Souled
Out, so maybe Tony just skipped it before.
-
Smiley vs Meng vs Knobbs vs Finlay for the Hardcore Title, in case you're
wondering.
-
I'm wondering why Dustin Rhodes hasn't been on TV since Starrcade, but
that's just me.
-
IIRC, this is my first ever hardcore match.
-
So, excuse the lack of detail, 'cause there's just way too much going on.
-
DC jumps Knobbs as Finlay waits outside the ring for some reason.
-
Ah, Finlay just went to grab a Kendo stick from the dumpster o' weapons.
-
Kendo Stick shots all around, then Finlay ejects Tom, then helps Knobbs
turn the tables on Mike.
-
Finlay rolls out and drops Tom neck first on the railing, while Knobbs
beats Mike inside the ring.
-
Garbage shots around, now Tom takes control with garbage can shots on Knobbs.
-
Finely with his own can shot to break that up, but Mike hits him from behind
with a shot.
-
Knobbs and Finlay back in control, Finlay with a Kendo Stick assisted camel
clutch on Mike.
-
Finlay then chokes him, jabbing the end of his stick into his throat.
-
Finlay with a cross corner whip on Tom, who rebounds off the ropes, low
kick, clothesline.
-
Knobbs goes all the way up, garbage can top rope splash, and the three
count.
-
Your Winners: Knobbs and Finlay (2:28)
-
Finlay talks to the camera, and Knobbs says "Yes sir!" a few times.
-
Tony goes over the match.
-
And makes believe he announced the match before.
-
Sigh.
-
Tony talks about Jarrett/Benoit some, then Heenan talks about both matches.
-
That's it.
