WCW Worldwide - Saturday, January 1, 2000
-
I'm disturbed.
-
I just saw the Mancow TV show.
-
And when he isn't trying to be rip Howard Stern's TV show off, it ain't
half bad.
-
That's one disturbing thought.
-
Tony Schiavone and Bobby Hennan are studio hosts this week
-
Tony mentions the reformation of the nWo, but first, stills of Starrcade
to set up what happened on Nitro
-
Heenan: "I know scammers when I see them, because...I can pick out scammers."
-
Sting, make-up less, asks you to buy his shirt.
-
Clips of Nitro (12/20), leading to the nWo return
-
Wow, you can see Russo's sleeve.
-
If the Power That Be is/was so smart, why he'd allow them to film that bit the exposed his plan?
-
That's not too smart.
-
You know what Nitro needs? More 'shoot' speeches.
-
Just like it needs more TAFKA Prince Iaueka.
-
They managed to clip Piper's speech so it was coherent. Good for WCW.
-
Why would TPTB bring a set of walls wherever they went?
-
Why does Piper cover Goldberg?
-
Hey, it's that SAME STING AD from last break.
-
Sting: "Attitude sold separately."
-
Er, wrong company.
-
On the other hand, the WWF is airing ads primarily to say "We're sold out!
You can't get tickets! (till the day of the event, maybe)"
-
So, equally odd advertising techniques happening.
-
Tony tries to claim that Jarrett/Benoit Ladder match at Starrcade was the
best WCW PPV match of the year.
-
Nope, that was Juvie/Blitzkreig at Spring Stampede.
-
Or at least I think so.
-
Anyway, we see stills from that hat match.
-
Tony: "This is one we'll never forget."
-
Ask him about it in a year...
-
To Nitro, where Jeff Jarrett wins the US Title.
-
Tony points out that the nWo has all the belts, but one...
-
The new Crusierweight Champion, Madusa
-
Tony: "Do you think Madusa ever really liked Evan Karagis?"
-
Bobby: "No...*I* never liked Evan either."
-
Me neither.
-
Not that I like Madusa.
-
Stills from that Starrcade classic.
-
Oh crap, we get the interview from Nitro.
-
And then the match.
-
I might have taken this angle a little more seriously...
-
Had it happened years and enhancements ago.
-
Hmm...forty after, and Tony's hyping another set off clips...
-
Recap of the Sting/Luger/Liz fun
-
Stills from Starrcade.
-
I have no comments to make.
-
And, after the second Souled out Promo of the night, the Sting Shirt Promo
again!
-
Doesn't someone else have a shirt to sell?
-
Bobby Eaton vs Chris "Champagne" Kanyon (w/Mr. Biggs and women of questionable
virtue)
-
We're on the Thunder set, so this must be one of the newer tapings.
-
Scott Hudson and Mike Tenay are the announcers
-
J. Biggs shows off the belt.
-
Has anyone bothered to explain that on TV?
-
Tenay and Hudson are confused, so I'm guessing no.
-
Supposedly, it's going be the World Movie belt or something, to replace
the TV belt.
-
Eaton and Kanyon battle through a nice set of armbar and wristlock reversals.
-
It ends with Kanyon knocking down Eaton with a shoulderblock, then using
a nifty two leg cradle for a 2 count.
-
Hudson and Tenay make me lose my place big time...
-
Hudson's talking about getting info from Biggs about Kanyon
-
Hudson: "I got an e-mail..."
-
Tenay: "Wait a minute, you got an e-mail, I heard Tony got sent an e-mail...was
I the only one not to get an e-mail?"
-
Hudson: "Tony's got e-mail?"
-
Tenay: "That's what I hear."
-
See, that kinda' shoot stuff I can appreciate.
-
Just a silly, inside aside.
-
Kanyon, perhaps thinking he got three, celebrates for the fans...
-
then turns right around into an Eaton right hand. And another. And a third.
-
Eaton with an backdrop, then a clothesline to the outside.
-
Kanyon stalls outside, and forces Eaton to back up before he'll come back
in the ring.
-
Kanyon rolls back in, and gets his hair grabbed by Eaton. Turnbuckle smash,
then an Irish whip.
-
The whip is reversed by Kanyon, and Eaton gets his leg held by J. Biggs.
-
Eaton turns around to yell at Biggs, turns back around, and walks right
into a swinging fisherman's suplex, with bridge. 2 count.
-
Kanyon goes to a less innovative move - a choke.
-
Kanyon goes up to the top, and misses the big splash, as Eaton moves out
of the way.
-
Both men up, Kanyon with a right, Eaton with a right, and Kanyon sells
it big.
-
Eaton with another whip, Kanyon with another reversal, Kanyon puts his
head down too soon and eats swinging neckbreaker.
-
Bobby's slow to cover, but finnally does, gets 2, and Biggs puts Kanyon's
leg on the ropes.
-
It's nice to see them putting this much effort in making Bobby look good.
-
But maybe they're trying too hard.
-
No offense to Eaton fans, but if they're building Kanyon up, he should
be able to beat guys who are at Bobby's level without needing to cheat.
-
Bobby with another Irish whip, Kanyon reverses it again....right into the
Flatliner That's A Wrap. 3 count.
-
Your Winner: Chris "Champagne" Kanyon (2:56)
-
I think perhaps they over did that "Irish Whip, reverse" spot.
-
Otherwise, good clean fun.
-
Hudson and Tenay make a big deal about Kanyon having J. Biggs (and not
the ref) raise his hand post match.
-
Back to the studio
-
Only one match.
-
Sigh.
-
Tony and Bobby hype the nWo vs Goldberg feud.
-
Ooops.
-
Er, that's it.
