WCW Worldwide - Saturday, 6/5/99
- One Year Ago On Worldwide - In the (so called) main
event, Jim Duggan beat Reese. In other action that wasn't
as painful to watch, Chris Benoit and Fit Finley won
squashes and the Villanos pinned DC in a battle of the
jobber tag teams.
- This report kinda' speeds up at the end. Sorry about
that...
- We start of with clips from Nitro 5/24
- Piper asks George where Randy Savage is, leading to..
- Flair (and then DDP and Bigelow) beat up Piper
- We follow that with Hogan's interview
- Nash's interview is shown, leading to..
- The girls setting Nash up for Savage to beat him
down and apply the Lipstick Of Doom.
- No Benoit or Malenko. I was looking forward to
seeing that. Maybe later.
- Hyping the Monday Nitro in Chicago on June 28, Mene Gene
talks to Chris Jericho
- Hey, welcome back, Chris. You staying long? :)
- Chris corrects Gene "Monday Night
Jericho."
- Chris talks about the young vs old feud, and says
he's not scared
- "The Flairs, the Hogans, the Pipers, the
Jerichos, the Halls, the Nashs, we're on top of
our game. I don't have time to worry about the
young guys, I'm too worried about beating
Sting..."
- Mene Gene questions Jericho putting himself in
the group with Hogan and Flair
- You know, maybe if he could say that
without being questioned, he wouldn't be
leaving...
- Chris "I do think Hogan and Flair and Piper
deserve to be in a class with me. They've paid
their dues.."
- Chris labels himself as a humble person about ten
seconds later.
- Um, I don't know if I'm right, but isn't
Jericho's contract up at the end of June? So, if
Jericho's still wrestling on TV, that Nitro could
be his last time on WCW TV...
- Random Commercial Question: How does one become Minor
League Player of the Year? I mean, if you're that good,
you're called up.
- Backstage at Nitro, with AA, Benoit and Malenko
- The drivers license line gets left in.
- In fact, they cut it off right after the line.
- Makes me think that all this rumored 'backstage
heat' about comments like that ain't more than
rumors.
- We go to Piper ranting like a loony.
- Then, to the main event.
- I'm dreaming that Benoit comes down during the
GAB match, and pops Flair and Piper.
- It'd explain why Malenko ignored Piper last week,
at least.
- GAB Promo
- I'm soooo glad that WCW is keeping its streak of
lame PPV promos going.
- Recap of Sting/Luger vs Steiners feud leads to
- Rick Steiner vs Buff Bagwell on Nitro
- According to a recent WCW Live interview, Sting
was supposed to come down from the ceiling that
night, but they changed it, because of what
happened the night before.
- I guess that explains why they took so long
showing him...they wanted to do something where
he'd come out of nowhere...
- They talk about the Nitro Grill
- I ignore it.
- Hey, I'm not going to Las Vegas anytime soon.
- It leads into a Grill video montage
- I noticed Hennig was wearing the same suit he was
wearing when he debuted in WCW. Odd.
- GAB lineup, so far.
- Kevin Nash vs Randy Savage for the World Title
- Roddy Piper vs Ric Flair for control of the WCW
- DDP/Bigelow vs Raven and Saturn (w/Kanyon and
belts in graphic) for the Tag Team Titles.
- FWIW, rumor has DDP/Bigelow vs Saturn and Benoit as a replacement.
- Tony hypes WCW Mayhem, due out in August
- Van Hammer beat Barry Darsow with a cobra clutch slam.
- El Vampiro defeated Judo Suwa with a spinning kick.
