The Superstars of the WCW Become the First Pro Wrestlers Ever On Postage Stamps

New York (December 16) - Inspired by the global popularity of professional wrestling, the superstars of World Championship Wrestling (WCW) will be featured together in a series on postage stamps that will be officially issued on Tuesday December 29, 1998. Eight of the most popular athletes in pro wrestling that appear regularly on television throughout the world will soon be traveling on envelopes to destinations everywhere, courtesy of the Caribbean nation of St. Vincent. The stamps will be unveiled by some of the superstar wrestlers in an official ceremony on December 29 at the Harley Davidson Café in New York City at 12:00 PM.

The eight postage stamps will feature the likes of Hollywood (Hulk) Hogan, Sting, Bret Hart, Giant, Kevin Nash, Randy "Macho Man" Savage, Diamond Dallas Page, and undefeated champion Goldberg. This authorized, individually numbered postage stamp sheet also features numerous action images of the wrestlers in the selvage area around the perforated stamps. It is licensed by World Championship Wrestling through the WCW's licensing agent Leisure Concepts, Inc., a subsidiary of 4Kids Entertainment (NASDAQ: KIDE).

The action packed postal issue was designed and produced by the Inter-Governmental Philatelic Corp (IGPC), the world's largest postal agency with more than 75 government clients including St. Vincent. Previous issues by St. Vincent of pop culture figures including Barbra Streisand, John Lennon and the Titanic, are considered to have attracted thousands of children to the hobby of stamp collecting.

"We are very excited to issue stamps of these heroes to children around the world", stated Chryl Hinds, General Manager of Postal services for St. Vincent. "Children are the future of this educational hobby of stamp collecting and issues like these should attract many young people to our stamps. The WCW is one of the most popular cable television programs in our nation and we are proud to be the first to honor these entertaining figures." A worldwide phenomenon, the WCW now airs in over 85 countries, in 10 different languages. In America it is viewed by 32 million fans each week on television and packs hundreds of arenas for its live events.

The official WCW/nWo Postage stamp collection, including the sheet of eight stamps and matching collectors folio with certificate of authenticity, are exclusively available to collectors and dealers through America Remembers at 1-800-682-2291.
