WCW {Pro} - Sunday, 08/30/1998
- The mailbag:
- Phillip Rhodes asks the question burning in the minds of everyone:
- Whatcha think about having the Warrior back?
- My response to the Warrior is, "Why?" Here's a guy whose best years were about eight years ago, and has already gone through a failed attempt or two at reviving his character in the WWF. What makes him think he'll succeed now?
Of course, this is WCW, "Where The Old Men Play." Maybe I am being a bit too hard on WCW lately, but it is this stuff that drives me nuts. The money he is making for his limited amount of appearances could have gone to signing newer talent from other promotions (Something WCW is good at.), renewing contracts (Something WCW may have trouble with down the line.), or -- perish the thought -- CREATE NEW TALENT!
- On that note, is it just me or were some of the fans getting bored during Warrior's speech? The monotony levels during his tirades rival that of some of the college instructors I have gone through. Warrior might want to wrestle a bout on Nitro every now and then if he wants to keep his heat. Or is that not good enough for him? The words "Put up or shut up" can apply here.
- The {Pro} begins with a shot of The Warrior making his WCW debut.
- Scott Hudson claims the wrestling world was rocked in Hartford, CT when the Warrior appeared on Nitro.
- From Nitro (08/17/1998): The Warrior gives a boring lecture to Hogan, Bischoff, and E. Harrison.
- Zzzzzzzz....
- Hudson (after the segment): "No one captivates an audience like the Warrior!" Somebody please fire this guy.
- Lee Marshall interviews The Public Enemy.
- GOD. All Rocco Rock does is hype Fall Brawl and says how great WCW is. Well, if "great" is defined as jobbing out to Bulldog and the Anvil on Worldwide, then I guess Mr. Rock is right. Can't argue with logic.
- Johnny Grunge then talks about how he likes the double cage because he can stack the tables high.
- Y'know, the day TPE participates in War Games is the day that either Doc Dean, Lenny Lane, or Norman Smiley get title pushes.
- Promo for Fall Brawl.
- Hudson reminds us that its Steiner vs. Steiner at Fall Brawl.
- {Pro} Exclusive #1: Chris Adams vs. Hardbody "Don't Call Me E." Harrison.
- An Exclusive?! What is Bischoff thinking?!?
- Chris Adams is looking mighty flashy with his jacket.
- Lockup to start. After taking the advantage, Adams gives the clean break.
- Another lockup and clean break, but Hardbody shoves Adams.
- Some stalling by Hardbody. Something tells me that he is the heel for this matchup.
- An armdrag takedown by Adams sends Hardbody outside.
- Yawwwwwwwwwwn.
- Hardbody tries to kick Adams, but the leg is grabbed and Hardbody gets taken down.
- Adams applies a dragonscrew legwhip, but Hardbody gets to the ropes.
- Adams follows up with a leg scissors.
- Since the face has had control of this matchup for a minute or so, Adams walks into a Hardbody fist, changing the momentum. The tension rises!
- Hardbody butterfly pancakes Adams onto the mat.
- Hardbody goes up top and attempts a front flip, but misses when Adams moves.
- Adams opens up with some punches to the back, grabs Hardbody's leg and applies a throw-away suplex.
- Adams signals for the Superkick, and nails him. The 3-count follows.
- YOUR WINNER: Chris Adams by the Superkick in 3:31.
- Starburst Road Report: Monday Nitro comes to Miami, FL, about four hours
from where I live. Damned if I go after seeing nWo Nightcap in Tampa.
- Promo for Fall Brawl.
- From WCWSN (08/22/1998): "Hey, Yo!" vs. "Orale!"
- That's Scott Hall vs. Konnan for the new WCW viewers out there.
- Hudson claims that there is confusion in nWo-black/white because Hall lost to Konnan. Gosh, I never knew so much rode on the outcome of a match on Saturday Night.
- They talk about the "last match" of Raven and Saturn at Fall Brawl.
- From Worldwide (08/22/1998): Disco Inferno vs. Riggs.
- I just had a scary thought on a new WCW tag team concept -- Riggs and Hacksaw Jim Duggan as the "One-Eyed Wonders."
- A plot continuity warning is in effect, as Disco plays the face in this bout.
- Lee interviews Disco Inferno, whom reverts back to heel mode.
- Lee talks about Disco eating three tables at Road Wild.
- Disco signals that he'll cut the tape, but Lee threatens him.
- Lee says Disco had this coming for the abuse he has endured.
- Oh, shut the hell up, both of you.
- Hudson must not read the booking sheets, because he says The Giant has a problem with Stevie Ray.
- From Thunder (08/20/1998): The Giant vs. Stevie Ray.
- This week in WCW Motorsports: Lance Hooper's quest for a victory is for naught, again.
- Promo for Fall Brawl.
- They talk about DDP and The Warrior representing Team WCW at War Games, but ponder on who the third man is.
- {Pro} Exclusive #2: Shiima Nobunaga vs. Ultimo Dragon.
- Shiima gets some funky-ass music coming into the ring.
- The announcers talk about fifteen or so of Ultimo's students following him to the States.
- Obviously, this is a teacher vs. student match.
- Lockup to start and Shiima starts with an elbow to the head.
- Two standing switches after an Irish whip and some mat reversals follow.
- Ultimo applies an armlock on Shiima.
- Shiima counters with an armlock of his own, but the teacher locks the student in a head scissors.
- Ultimo bodyslams Shiima and applies a resthold.
- Ultimo performs a surfboard-type move, but Shiima cheapshots his way out of it.
- As Shiima gains control, the announcers talk about how Ultimo must be upset at Shiima taking the low road out of a move. My, how we forget that Mr. Dragon was once a heel, as well.
- Shiima with a scoopslam and hits a springboard diving headbutt.
- Shiima legdrops his teacher and gets a two-count.
- Shiima whips Ultimo into the corner, but this gets reversed.
- Ultimo charges and Shiima moves out of the way, allowing Ultimo to perform his headstand into a double boot.
- Ultimo with the rapid fire kicks.
- Ultimo puts Shiima up top, chops him (Whoooooo!), and frankensteiners him.
- Ultimo attempts an Asai Moonsault, but applies the Dragon Sleeper for the submission win!
- YOUR WINNER: Ultimo Dragon by the Dragon Sleeper in 3:58.
- They recap War Games as we fade to black.
- Comments? Compliments? Criticisms?
You know what to do. Peace!
