WCW Worldwide - Saturday, 3/14/98
By TheCubs Fan
- Yea! I picked Valpo, Western Mich and Detroit in the NCAAs...Now, if FDU beat UConn, I'd be in awesome shape...
- I got no mail last week, which leads me to believe two things...
- My mail wasn't working (which was happening part of Monday)
- or you didn't find anything wrong with my description of the Stunner and the Cutter last week...that's strange...
- Bob Ryder, over at 1wrestling.com, will have a chat session with Kevin Nash before Uncensored on Sunday at 5pm EST for Prodigy Classic users. Ryder says that Nash will talk about the firing of Sean "Syxx" Waltman...that should be interesting.
- You know, it wouldn't be a stretch of the imagination to see Nash and Hall no-show on the PPV, especially if they're both booked to lose...
- Hey, if anyone happens to know of one of those free web site providers that allows your own CGI scripts, could you tell me? I'm looking for someone...
- Seeing how I've gone 5 months since plugging my site, I thought I'd give a couple plugs to other people's real quick
- Online Onslaught is in Bill's A-list, but since Rick often plugs this site in his reports when he doesn't have a good Nitro or Thunder report, I figure he deserves another one...
- Xavier Doom's Slayground is another one of the A-links, but I want to point him out because he's got something that we all could need, a quick dictionary of common words in Dusty Rhodes language...
- Finally, cause I've been in the fed for a year but have never plugged it here, let me give a quick shot to the XBWL...hey, it's pretty dang good e-fed and I'm not saying it just because I'm the three time International Champ :) Mention I sent ya'...
- I'm resisting the urge to plug my site...it's getting better than it was, but not deserving of a plug yet...
- Ok, last week, I mentioned something combing Kevin Bacon and Konnan...if that didn't scare ya, this will
- Remember, not long ago, some college kids published "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon", which connected him with a huge amount of Hollywood stars, through movies people had appeared in...
- Well, I couldn't get to sleep one night and it occurred to me, I could do the same think with K-Dog. It's called, the Six Degrees of Angles of Konnan. Basically, I just connect the guy who's wrestling to Konnan, by any wrestling angle (and I'm gonna be very flexible about what an angle is...I might just use an important match) that I can think of, not just limited to WCW. Some times, they're gonna be real easy, sometime it'll take a little effort, but one things for sure...you'll probably find better (or other) ways to do it besides mine.,,
- Chris Benoit over Black Cat be Swan Dive
- Benoit was part of the 4Horseman, who feuded with the Dungeon of Doom, which Konnan was a member
- Black Cat was squashed by Marty Jannetty in Jannetty's debut, who was tag team partners with Shawn Michaels, who claimed that he thought up the nWo for a while, which Konnan is a member
- Tony plugs Hall being up later, with "Big Sexy the Giant Killer"
- Black Cat controls early...
- "A let's go Chris chant" is started in the crowd, but Black Cat still dominates till Benoit reverses into a side suplex
- Benoit takes over for a few seconds, but then Black Cat gets a quick suplex on him, goes to the top and misses a knee drop
- Yea, I know the Swan Dive's a tough move, but that was only Benoit's third move of the match (ignoring slaps)...that was a weird match...
- I'm picking Benoit to win this weekend...yea, I know that isn't possible, I just dream
- Lee Marshall with Chris Jericho w/Belt
- Jericho...hmm...he had a feud with Alex Wright, who feuded with Ultimo, who had a battle with Steve Regal with the belt, who lost it to Prince Iaukea, who somehow beat Rey Mysterio, who feuded with Konnan. That was a close one....
- I could have said Jericho beating Hall or Syxx, but that would required forethought...
- Marshall says that Jericho was holding up an airport metal detector line because he wouldn't take off his belt..Uh huh...
- Jericho says he'll be in Chicago for his thousands of Jericholics...
- Bobby and Tony, seeing that they've got many more matches today, decide to use their interview time to hype Savage vs Hogan in a cage (aka, two guys you ain't gonna see on a weekend show any time soon)
- Kidman w/Lodi over Super Calo by Shooting Star Press
- Kidman (and Lodi) is part of the Nest, who have feuded with DDP, who has had problems with the nWo, which Konnan is a member
- Super Calo had a short feud with La Parka, who came to Rey Mysterio's defense against Konnan...
- Lodi came out with Kidman, but the Flock doesn't seem to be at ringside
- Commercial break before the match started...
- Kidman does the worst looking punches on Super Calo's back.
- A good Asia Moonsault by Calo and dropkicks Kidman out of the ring...Lodi and Kidman talk for about 15 seconds before Calo planchas both of them...Calo follows it up with a flying sunset flip back in to the ring, but then Kidman gets a snap suplex
- Calo takes back over, Missile Dropkick for 2 and a foot on the rope
- Calo tries to Super Hurcanrana Kidman, but Lodi holds Kidman from winning and Calo falls down by himself
- Another match where the winner pretty much got beat up for most of the match....
- Lee Marshall quickly plugs the Chicago Nitro...I guess tickets are still available...
- Oh yeah, it's the Eagle Man commercial...the worst commercial ever made! Ahh, that brightens my day up...I'd describe the commercial, but you can't put bad acting like that into words...
- Uncensored Promo
- "B is for that no good Canadian, Bret Hart"
- Hogan puts down Hart, Hennig and Hart talk trash about each other."
- All the things you'll ever do, you'll never beat Curt Hennig."
- I think Mr. Hennig suffers from long term memory loss (I don't remember :)
- And both sides use Bret's phrase "TBTW, TBTI, and TBTEWB"
- Does this count as a main event match? I don't know...
- "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan over Rick "tied in '97 for worst push" Fuller by Old Glory
- Duggan...well, I could go Big Bubba feud->nWo or M. Wallstreet feud->nWo
- Rick Fuller got squashed by Goldburg on a recent Thunder, who squashed Hugh Morrus in his debut, who feuded with Konnan
- Tony on Hacksaw's music "That music doesn't mean a parade is coming today, but something very similar..."
- Kind of ironic we got Hacksaw...he's been an issue in our DDT Digest Virtual Office
- Let me just say that Duggan may appeal to some...but not to me. I like a person who do more athletic and high risk moves. And while Duggan does draw a lot of heat, there is no cheaper way to get boos or cheers (depending on where you are) than to bring a flag to the ring. JMO
- Brain "Duggan can sit on a piece of wood and know what kind it is"
- USA chant brings to mind a question...where is Fuller from?
- Luger and White Thunder hype as Jim Duggan does the ten punches in a corner thing that I haven't seen in a while...
- You know, I think Hacksaw does the Old Glory because he can't bend over for the three point stance anymore...just MO.
- Nitro Highlights...Rick Steiner joins the nWo...almost....You know, for a person with a broken/injured neck, those headbutts that Giant does should really hurt him...but they don't...almost like he's not hurt or something...
- After a break and the car segment, we go to Thunder Highlights. Crush vs Savage 2. Where day chanting Sable when Savage was getting beat up? And can someone figure out who these people that
- Shiima Nobunaga over Cicolpe (w/ a real big orange top hat on) by Pendulum Swing (kinda like a standing surfboard, Brain calls it the Metal Detector)
- Cicolpe looked so funny coming out with that hat.
- Nobunaga's got a nice leather jacket. Him and Nagata must shop at the same place
- As I'm sure you remember from before, Nobunaga's a student of Ultimo Dragon...and you can go back up and look at the Jericho thing
- Cicolpe...has Cicolpe been in an angle? Well, I remember a tag team match he had with Damien 666 vs Lizmark Jr and Hector Garza, who beat Scott Hall, who part of the nWo, like Konnan...that's a stretch [Note from Bill to help out: At a house show last year, Konnan pulled off Ciclope's mask accidentally and Ciclope wrestled the rest of the match maskless and nothing was ever made of it.]
- Cicolpe dominates early, clothesline for two, slap in the corner, whip reversed, Cicolpe goes to top but arm dragged of by Nobunaga.
- Cicolpe powerbombs! Nobunaga for a 2, Nobunaga reverses Cicolpe into the ropes, Springboard Moonsault for 2
- Brainbuster by Cicolpe, but Nobunaga gets reverse another whip and knocks down Cicolpe. Top Rope for the Eddie Guerrero Frog Splash, but Cicolpe moves...Top Rope Dropkick to the back of Nobunaga's head (that looked like it hurt big time) and then Cicolpe takes a while to get Nobunaga in the Pendulum Swing for the submission
- Pretty quick, even match....wasn't half bad.
- Lee Marshall talk to Sonny Onoo
- Onoo...brought in all those Japenese wrestlers for the World Cup of wrestling at Starrcade a few years back, which Ric Flair was a member, who beat Konnan for the US Title...
- Ric Flair vs Curt Hennig in Hammond on the 21st, for those who are going...
- Onoo thinks that we don't respect the Japanese wrestlers...why aren't they getting belt shots (Ultimo!)
- No Onoo's saying Onoo is sold out..he says that if they don't getting belt shots, he's gonna make a few calls and shut down Nitro :)
- Ultimo Dragon (dang, I just mentioned him), Lex Luger, Saturn, and Duggan again! All Next week
- Scott Hall (w/"Big Sexy Giant Killer" Kevin Nash) over Hugh Morrus by Outsider's Edge
- Err...this match is too easy for me to do, so I'm not gonna bother
- Hmm...who's missing??? :)
- Wrote the finish before the match started...and I already can guess that Nash will get involved
- According to my clock, we've got 2 whole minutes for this match
- Backdrop to Morrus, than an arm bar.
- Morrus gets hall in the corner and start punching, tries for the whip the other way but Hall reverses and punch
- Hall's whip is reversed, big clothesline and then three headbutts gets two count
- Kick by Hall, kick by Hugh, Snap suplex by Morrus, foot on the rope by Hall at 2
- Punch to the Head on Hall, falls in the corner, Morrus whips Hall, reversed again, Springboard clothesline by Morrus
- Morrus goes for the No Laughing Matter, but gets crotched on the ropes..didn't catch by who, but I can guess
- Hall takes Morrus off from the top into the Edge and then covers for the pin
- After the match, Hall and Nash like it's the first match Hall has won in a while...which could be true...
- My clock's wrong, it's 10:02 at the show's ending
