WCW Saturday Night - Saturday, 02/28/98
WCW Saturday Night - Saturday, 02/28/98
- First, I'd like to thank everyone who helped me with my Pat Tanaka question last week. The team I'd remembered seeing him in was the AWA team of "Bad Company," with Paul Diamond, and managed by Diamond Dallas Page! Apparently, he was also in a WW
F tag team called "The Orient Express" at some point, too.
- Now, let's head on over to the Muthaship, with Scott & Mike!
- Match 1: Disco Inferno pinned Evan Courageous after the Chartbuster
- The crowd must be coached, as they're booing Courageous.
- Disco Fever, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah!
- Tonight's report brought to you by Tostito's chips and salsa, and Cherry Coke.
- Coming up tonight: Raven vs. Chris Benoit. Clean finish? Show of hands? Anyone??
- They talk about Disco's increase in success, due to the Chartbuster. Kinda strange, since the rumor is that they're going to take the Chartbuster and give it to Ed "The Disciple" Leslie.
- Disco starts off with the early advantage, but Courageous starts flipping him around.
- I've been impressed with what little I've seen of Courageous.
- Oh God no, Hacksaw Jim Duggan is on tonight!!
- Drop toehold by Courageous.

- Good showing by Courageous.
- Tenay talks about the DDP/Chris Benoit feud, and the interference from The Flock.
- Match 2: Barbarian (w/Jimmy Hart) pinned Barry Horowitz after the Kick of Fear
- Barry Horowitz, the King of all Jobbers.
- Barbarian comes down with Jimmy Hart. I still can't get the image of Barbarian in slacks and a tie last week on Nitro out of my mind.
- Next week's Nitro is going to be on closed-circuit TV at the Corestates Center in Philadelphia because the arena where the show will be is sold out.
- Barbarian is, of course, handing Horowitz's rear to him.
- Barbarian with a backbreaker, and holds Horowitz over his knee.
- Hudson: "To coin a phrase, wrestling's hot right now." Inventive phrase, Baldylocks.
- Barbarian doesn't react to some Horowitz punches, or a kneelift, or a clothesline.
- Horowitz rushes Barbarian, but runs right into the Kick of Fear. Nighty-night.

- Footage from Lex Luger challenging Scott Steiner on Nitro last week.
- Weird. This is a long clip, but there's no voiceover, just music.
- Match 4: Eddie Guerrero pinned Bobby Blaze with the Frog Splash
- Bobby Blaze comes out, making some weird gestures in the air with his hands.
- In my list of WCW wrestler hometowns, I've got Blaze down tentatively as being from Ashland, KY. Can anyone confirm that?
- I can't describe Eddie Guerrero's ring entrance any better than "oozes."
- Eddie gives a disdainful look to fans who want a "high five."

- Hennig: "Your dad could never beat my dad."
- They should bill this as a battle of two guys whose dad's promotions went belly-up.
- Footage from Thunder of Scott Steiner taking Marty Janetty apart.
- Scott Steiner either looks like "Superstar" Billy Graham or a "negative" image of Rick Steiner.
- Does anyone else want to see "White Thunder" Scott Steiner team with "White Lightning" Tim Horner to feud with the Natural Disasters, in a battle to control Earth's weather? I didn't think so.
- Match 7: Jim Duggan pinned William Worthy after Old Glory
- Sheesh, I can feel my IQ dropping just looking at Duggan.
- And Hacksaw's victim will be William Worthy.
- Duggan starts up his USA chant.
- Worthy attacks Duggan as he's "ho"ing. Duggan doesn't notice.
- Duggan with a big clothesline.
- Does an eyerake on Duggan hurt only half as much as a normal guy?

- Walker clotheslines one of the DC's out of the ring.
- Eaton tags in, and goes to work.
- I can't tell the DC's apart.
