WCW Saturday Night - Saturday, 01/31/98
Wade had some VCR trouble last night, so I'm doing a quick report. Sorry for the lack of detail, and Wade will be back with a full report next week. fyi, as a result of all the technical problems, WCW is offering refunds for those who subscribed to the Boston Brawl.
- Scott Hudson and "Iron" Mike Tenay are doing the announcing duties tonight.
- "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan pinned Louie Spiccoli following a kneedrop.
- Spiccoli is now referred to as the "nWo pledge".
- Hudson says the WCW may deal the final blow to the nWo at Superbrawl. Yeah, right.
- "Mean" Mike Enos and Wayne "The Train" Bloom defeated Disorderly Conduct when Wayne Bloom pinned one of Disorderly Conduct.
- Mike Enos looks good. It looks like he may have lost some weight.
- Scott Hudson said Enos and Bloom had an impressive debut as a tag team. Tenay corrected him with the obvious knowledge that they've teamed together for years.
- Eddie Guerrero pinned Len Denton following a frog splash.
- Yep, WCW is definitely using a heat machine.
- Yuji Nagata made Barry Horowitz submit to the Nagatalock, with a lot of help from Disco Inferno.
- Heh, during Horowitz's entrance, cameras focused on a bunch of guys in the crowd patting themselves on the back.
- Disco Inferno came out and did his schtick before the match and gave Horowitz a Chartbuster
- Anybody willing to bet against Nick Patrick being the referee for the Sting/Hogan match at Superbrawl.
- Mortis and Wrath defeated Villanos IV and V when Wrath pinned Villano V(?) following a Death Penalty.
- If I was manager of the Villanos, I'd shoot for a spot on a Twix commercial, Doublemint Gum commercial, or Dos Equis beer.
- Wrath looks like he's lost some weight.
- Taped spot with Raven. His next target is DDP. I guess that makes sense since he got his ass completely kicked by Benoit.
- John Nord made Evan Courageous submit to the Camel Clutch.
- I wish they'd stop calling this move the Camel Clutch, because it's not. It's a forward chinlock because the victim is on his knees. For the Camel Clutch, the victim's body is extended.
- Glacier pinned Bobby Blaze following a Cryonic Kick.
- Unfortunately, Glacier turning heel has not shortened his entrance.
- Ernest Miller did a run in after the match and cleaned Glacier's clock.
- "Gentleman" Chris Adams pinned Renegade following a superkick.
- Wow! Tenay and Hudson not only talked about how Renegade is a former TV champion, but about how he used to be a Hulk Hogan protegeé and was managed by Jimmy Hart. Wow, I thought history had been rewritten on that subject.
- On the superkick, Hudson said "Wow, I could hear that over in the announcers' position". Pretty impressive, since you weren't at the arena.
- Marshall interviews DDP. Marshall tries to talk about Raven, but DDP wants to talk about Benoit. DDP says he's not afraid of giving other people a shot, but Benoit will feel the BANG!
- Steve "Mongo" McMichael pinned Kidman following a tombstone piledriver.
- "Undefeated" Bill Goldberg pinned Meng following a Jackhammer.
- Goldberg and Meng looked like two drunk guys fighting at a Labor Day picnic.
- Goldberg's got three moves, the jackhammer, the spear, and the abdominal body scissors. And whenever he does the body scissors, the announcers get so excited you'd think he'd done a hurricarana.
