WCW Worldwide - Saturday, 01/17/98
By The Cubs Fan
- First off, I'd like everyone reading this just to take a moment, one second in time, just to be really mad at Loyola University of Chicago, for not having free cable in their dorms rooms...if they did, I'd be doing the Saturday Night reports....thanks :)
- A big thank you to WCW vs. nWo World Tour Moves List, for providing all the moves for that game. A few friends and I rented the game for the weekend and, combined with the experince of playing the game before, the info I found on that site allowed me to beat the heck out of everyone I played...maybe I'll let them look at the moves now ;-)
- After reading Bill's Thunder report, which pointed out that the Febuary and March's schedule was up, I checked it out myself...March 30th, United Center, WCW Nitro...Well, after missing out on Hogan/Luger last time WCW came into town and having so much fun when Mongo tombstoned Jarrett and Rodman showed going to the last Nitro in Chicago, I'll be there...
- Last week was a good show, let's see if they keep up with it...
- Steve Regal over Doc Dean by Regal Stretch
- The fact that these guys are both from England is pointed out a few times...
- Haven't seen Doc Dean around for a while...
- It seems, since that airplane incident, that Regal and Disco Inferno have switched pushes...Disco's hanging around the TV title picture...Regal's doing jobs on WCWSN...well, maybe that's not entirely true, but comparing two oppsities like Disco and Regal is fun...
- Barry Horowitz over Hardbody Harrison by some sort of full/half nelson hold into a roll-up
- As proven by that whole Harlem Hangover dispute, I don't know moves well, so that's my best guess
- This show's going down the tube quick, ain't it?
- I honestly think that I'm one of the few people to actually see the orginal broadcast of the WWF match when Horowitz pinned Skip (Chris Candido), starting the fued that would end with the long time JTTS on a PPV. Only a few saw the first showing of the match because it ended up on WWF Challenge, which, at that point in time, consisted of superstar and jobber squashes and tryouts for new wrestlers...never a match where the outcome was in any doubt...Also, the show was broadcast in the Chicago area at 2:00 AM, which means only people who stayed up real late just to watch wrestling saw it....
- By comparision, Worldwide today is leaps and bounds better that Challenge was at that time, IMO.
- Dave Taylor over Mike Anthony by double underhook/butterfly suplex
- That move I do know :)
- The match was preceded by that Dave Taylor promo...you know, besides making Taylor out to have a push, they're also making it look like he's a face in the promo...is there a turn going on that Steve Regal and I don't know about?
- Let's see, that's three confirmed UKers so far...
- Norman Smiley over Manny Fernadez by submission
- Flipping through channels real quick, didn't catch the hold, but Tony said he submitted...
- The only two UK guys left are Robbie Brookside and Chris Adams, if I'm not mistaken...too bad they won't be on today...main event, Giant destroying Louie Spicolli
- A nice back and forth match...
- Bobby Walker (w/Teddy Long) over Rick Fuller
- Short match...
- A wrestler for Teddy Long gets a win, surprise....
- This show has been so bad so far, as star quality goes...
- Giant over Louie Spicolli by chokeslam
- After the match, Tommy Dreamer jumped in from the crowd and started beating on Spicolli for wearing that stupid "The Real Innovator" t-shirt...just kidding, that's what I was dreaming would happen
- Anyone else wonder if that whole Scott Hall/Spicolli/Zybsco incident on Thunder was a quasi-shoot on Hall and Spicolli's relationship back with the WWF...rumor had it that Louie was a lackey for the Kliq (now WCW's Wolfpack and WWF's DX) and Spicolli saying that he looked up to Hall would back that up...
- Quick match, and the hour of pain is over :)
