WCW Sunday {Pro} - Sunday, 01/04/98
WCW Sunday {Pro} - Sunday, 01/04/98
- Where is Chan and Charlie you ask? Chan and Charlie are moving up in the world. They are moving to WCW Monday Nitro show report, as Bill is going to the Thursday Thunder show. This leaves me with one of the worst shows I have ever seen. (WCW or WWF). While it is still on the air, I get the honor of reporting for WCW {Pro}. Good Luck to Chan and Charlie and your new assignment.
- WCW {Pro} is hosted by Scott Hudson and Larry Zybysco this week.
- If Larry is gonna be wrestling, I don't think he should be doing announcing also. You never know if he is going to show up on a certain broadcast. If he is going to wrestle, drop the announcing completely and wrestle. If he is gonna announce, let him announce only.
- Scott who? Not only is this a show with sub-par wrestling. It is a show with sub-par announcers. Can Scott Hudson and bring on Mike Tenay, Lee Marshall or Gene Okerlund on a regular basis. Except for this show, I have never heard of Scott Hudson.
- Fit Finley defeated Eddie Jackie by submission.
- Nick Patrick refereed this match and is said to be under
investigation by the WCW Executive Committee.
- Most of the match, all Larry did was talk about his victory over
Bischoff and his upcoming match at WCW/nWo Souled Out on Saturday, January 24th.
- Overall, short match. It wasn't terrible and had a few decent
spots in it.
- This Week in WCW MotorSports
- Perhaps an online petition can get "This Week in WCW MotorSports"
taken off the air. They can use the time to let Gene Okerlund promote the WCW
Hotline. (Sorry Bill....I know how much you love Gene Okerlund.)
- I am a bit slow at times, and during the first commercial break, I
noticed a 1-800-Collect commercial. I thanked god for WCW taking Lee Marshall, his
weasal jokes, and his Nitro Parties off the air.
- Preview of WCW/nWo Souled Out
- Decent promo. Not as good as Starrcade or World Was 3.
- Souled Out is coming from Dayton, Ohio this year. I am from
Cleveland so it is about a 3 hour drive for me. I was hoping to get tickets
but I guess there were only 3,000 or 4,000 seats availible they sold out in an
hour. (I was actually disappointed. The last time WCW was in Cleveland was
for Nitro in September of 1996. The show itself was good that night but the
show in the arena sucked. The nWo was at some hotel and didn't appear in the
arena, Savage didn't show up for his interview, Ric Flair wasn't even
scheduled, Liz was at the arena but didn't come out....very disappointing
show. Therefore I was hoping to get tickets to Souled Out but it didn't
happen.)
- Wrath and Mortis w/James Vanderburg defeated Jerry Flynn and Mark Starr
with the death penalty.
- Again, this was a short match. Very boring also.
- All Scott and Larry did was talk about Starrcade again.
- Similar to yesterday on WCW Saturday Night, Scott and Larry teased
last week's Nitro footage (after they went off the air) but never showed it.
- Chavo Guerrero Jr. defeated Barry Horowitz after a kick to the face.
- Since coming to WCW, this was the first chance I had to see Barry
in action. It was quite interesting.
- Scott pointed out that Ultimo Dragon won the Cruiserweight
Championship from Chavo's uncle Eddie, last Monday on Nitro.
- Scott labeled Chavo's victory as an upset. I was a bit confused by
this since Barry rarely ever wins.
- Commercial for wcwwrestling.com. "Updated daily: The only pro
wrestling website that matters." If they update their site daily, I would like to know what exactly they're updating. I must say, it is a good site, however I get more information and see more updates and DDT Digest, Scoops, and Too Sweet.
- Footage from Nitro: Featuring WCW Champion Sting and Hollywood Hogan.
- Teasing even more about showing the Footage after Nitro went off
the air. Doesn't Bischoff realize, cutting the camera off the first time
during the match was one thing. Teasing it all weekend and then not showing
it is just gonna make people madder. If they're gonna show the footage from
Nitro....show the whole thing.
- More footage from Nitro. This features: Gene Okerlund interviewing
Bret Hart. Bret concentrated on ripping apart the nWo during the interview.
Did he forget about Ric Flair?
- Main Event time. Curt Hennig defeated Steven Regal with the fisherman
suplex.
- Remember, these matches are quite old....I assume Regal is still
out of action.
- Announcement for Main Event at WCW Monday Nitro tomorrow night.
Randy Savage w/Miss Elizabeth vs Lex Luger. (Can we say heel turn?)
- What coulda been a decent or pretty good match got turned into a
sub-par match because this has been WCW {Pro}.
- Overall, a boring show. The only highlight was the announcement of
Nitro's Main Event (and that was only a highlight if you don't have the
Iinternet and didn't hear about it already).
See you next week for WCW {Pro}! (BTW, I have heard rumors about WCW Main Event and WCW {Pro} being cancelled. However, I haven't heard any dates regarding when the show will be cancelled. If you know anything, please e-mail me at User552978@aol.com! Thanks!)
