WCW Saturday Night - Saturday, February 24th, 1996
- Well, I haven't done this in awhile, but I got everything I need to finish up 1996, so you shouldn't be seeing that kind of hiatus from me again, ever.
- A few things before the start of the show. Two plugs...
- First, I recently made a forum of wrestling recaps from myself, and others are welcome to post their own or simply relive the glory days of wrestling. http://colling1989.proboards41.com/index.cgi is the link, which will have all results from the WWF, my recaps of WCW, but clearly DDT Digest is the god of WCW, ECW and several others. Of course that would take a long time, but updates are loaded every day, from various years.
- Also, another forum that I joined and really like http://bigelow34.proboards99.com/index.cgi is the link. It has everything from PPV recaps of the WWF, along with discussions on sports, TV, and anything else.
- Sign up to both of them!
- Lastly, I watched a few RAWs from 1995, to see how the competition was.
- Sure enough, the crowds were largely bored, and only rose to their feet when Ramon or HBK were to come out. Sometimes, even Bret Hart came out to little reaction.
- Just thought I'd pass that along to show how far ahead WCW really is.
- Now, onto what I've noticed at this point in time, in WCW.
- I have noticed that supposed 4 Horsemen member, Chris Benoit, is hardly actually ever with Flair and Anderson. I wonder what is up with that.
- The Booty Man, or Butcher, or Zodiac or whatever he will be called next week. He is a complete waste of air. He has muscles, I would think that are generated by needles, and he has no charisma. But, "The Booty Man"? The sexual references are endless. I hope this is some kind of stupid rib.
- Let's enjoy some WCW Saturday Night!
- Opening Saturday Night video, along with Nitro footage of Flair beating Savage.
- Tony and Dusty (who is sporting a red leather jacket) welcome us to the show.
- We go to footage of Dallas Page losing his ring gear to some guy.
- Gene is standing with Johnny B. Badd and Kimberly.
- Badd quickly puts over Benoit, whom he is facing tonight.
- He laughs at Page and his troubles.
- Kimberly feels "pity" for Page. She says she is "over" how Page treated her.
- Badd goes on to tell Kimberly to "Zip it".
- Tension already?
- For the WCW World Television Championship: (champ) Johnny B. Badd Vs Chris Benoit
- No way will Benoit go over. He should, but won't.
- Benoit with the advantage early and often. Keeps it simple with punches and clotheslines.
- Head scissors, double axe handle off the top by Badd.
- Badd leaps off the top, and sunset flips the REFEREE because Benoit moved.
- The referee calls for the bell.
- Badd and Benoit brawl down the stairs and to the back.
- I'm going to assume Benoit moved the referee into that position, and the referee called for the DQ on Benoit.
- Your Winner: And still WCW World Television Champion, Johnny B. Badd via disqualification.
- Commercials
- Gene with the Uncensored control center.
- Bruiser/Regal, Konnan/Guerrero are the two matches given, or at least the two I noticed.
- Commercials
- One Man Gang w/chain but w/o talent Vs Pez Whatley
- Pez with several head butts.
- After a few ridiculous eye rakes and whatnot, Gang connects with the 747 big splash.
- Your Winner: One Man Gang via pinfall following the 747 splash.
- We see clips of Sting beating up Vader, to basically rip on the WWF roster, again.
- Commercials
- Highlights of Steve Grissom winning the first Busch race of the year.
- Just as stupid as it was on Nitro.
- Scott Armstrong Vs US Champ/Mexican Heavyweight Champion Konnan
- Konnan with several kicks and Armstrong is dazed.
- Konnan with the same rollup from the CotC, to get the win moments later.
- Your Winner: Konnan via pinfall
- Commercials
- Gene tries selling his Hotline crap.
- Diamond Dallas Page Vs Sgt. Craig Pittman w/ Teddy Long
- Considering Pittman hasn't been winning too much, you'd think he picked the wrong manager for his quest to become a champion, right?
- Pittman works on the arm for several minutes.
- They brawl on the floor with Pittman getting the advantage.
- Both are out there, until a double count-out occurs.
- Your Winner: No one. It's a Double Count Out.
- Sting and Luger up next.
- Commercials
- We come back and Gene is standing with the World Heavyweight Tag Team Champions, Sting and Lex Luger.
- Luger says that every single team will get a tag team title shot. Luger calls Sting the "captain".
- Sting doesn't want that, and he doesn't want Luger to flex his pecs all the time.
- Sting doesn't want to mess with the Road Warriors.
- For the WCW World Heavyweight Tag Team Titles: (champions) Lex Luger/Sting Vs Public Enemy
- The champs are in control for a little while, until like usual, Luger gets mugged and takes a beating.
- Sting gets the tag and takes both opponents down with a clothesline.
- Very weird ending... Rock is behind Sting going for a rollup and charges towards the ropes where Luger is. Sting ducks and Luger simply elbows the head of Rock, and Sting rolls him up for the three.
- Your Winners: And Still Tag Team Champions, Sting and Lex Luger via pinfall
- We see the usual "WCW is better than WWF" footage, with Luger beating up "Mean" Mark Callous. For those who don't know, that is the Undertaker in the WWF.
- Commercials
- Tony hypes up the ever huge, Marcus Bagwell and Loch Ness. Well, at least one of them is huge.
- We see highlights from Nitro 2-19-1996 of Ric Flair and Randy Savage.
- Which is sadly also the debut of The Booty Man.
- Hogan and Savage cut a promo on the Dungeon of Doom and 4 Horsemen.
- OK, apparently The Booty Man volunteered to go to the Dungeon of Doom, as the Zodiac.
- Booty Man then comes across the camera area saying "In Your Face"...
- Road Warriors Vs The Gambler/Butch Long
- Less than two minutes, nothing but a squash.
- Warriors win with the Doomsday Device on The Gambler.
- Your Winners: Road Warriors via pinfall
- Tony just put over seeing the replay... Wasn't that great of a replay, as all it showed was really the complete match
- We see highlights from the past Nitro.
- Sting/Rogers, Luger/Renegade, Warriors/Harlem Heat, Anderson/Flair/Sullivan Vs. Savage/Hogan/Booty Man on this coming up Nitro!
- Commercials
- We see Lee Marshall interviewing Dallas Page about losing his money.
- Page says that he may be at the bottom but he will climb back up to the top.
- Page tries plugging a video... As he goes to get his car, it is being reposessed.
- Not by the Repo Man.
- Gene hypes the WCW Hotline.
- We see footage of Scott Norton/Ice Train on WCW {Pro}, which went to a draw.
- They shake hands.
- Scott Norton Vs Ice Train
- This is a rematch for earlier in the week between these two.
- One hell of a contest... a boring one. Two big men just working on each other's knee...
- Another DRAW.
- Your Winner: DRAW
- Commercials
- Scott Norton talks to Gene and puts over Ice Train and says that they should become a tag team.
- Mega Maniacs/Booty Man with a promo.
- Commercials
- Uncensored Control Center or whatever with Gene.
- Regal/Belfast Bruiser, Guerrero/Konnan, and a Chicago Street Fight has been announced but we don't know the people involved.
- Marcus Bagwell Vs Loch Ness w/Jimmy Hart
- Wow, this is the main event? You've got to be kidding me.
- Bagwell with A LOT of punches, boots to the gut and one dropkick. None affecting Ness.
- Ness with one elbow to the chest, 1-2-3.
- Your Winner: Loch Ness via pinfall
- Gene is with Hart/Ness and they cut a promo on Hogan.
- Ness says he wants Hogan, he will beat every person in his way.
- We see Sting beating up Jake Roberts, another WWF wrestler.
- Commercials
- Flair, Sullivan and Anderson cut a promo on Hogan.
- Sullivan is wearing a 4 Horsemen shirt. Sullivan says he took out the punk, Brian Pillman.
- Flair says this is going to be the greatest Nitro for the Horsemen.
- See ya' next week!
- The Good: I'm going to go with, nothing.
- The Bad: Everything.
- The Ugly: I had to see The Booty Man.
